What’s the EU’s new Entry/Exit System (EES)?
Starting October 12, 2025, the EU will launch its Entry/Exit System (EES) — a digital, automated border-control system for non-EU/Schengen travellers. Instead of passport stamps, you’ll scan your passport, take a photo, and give fingerprints at the border
Who it affects?
If you’re not from an EU or Schengen country:
Expect a one-time biometric registration on your first crossing (unless your passport changes or you don’t travel for 3 years)
After that, future entries/exits only take a passport scan and photo — no more stamping
If you’re an EU/Schengen citizen (or hold a qualifying residency permit), you’re exempt
