2B off Grid is Unapologetically pro vanlife.
It’s a legitimate way of living in the UK.
This site exists to defend vanlife by telling the truth about it— with

“We’re rolling out a new way to explore life unplugged in the UK.
The 2BOFFGRID Video Hub brings you practical guides, true-life projects, and stories from the off-grid community
No hype. No fluff. Just useful, honest insights you can trust.
My Life in the Lay-By is the ongoing story of one man slowly realising that vanlife isn’t an escape — it’s just life, but with more moving parts and fewer places to hide. Every day’s a new lay-by, a new problem, or the same problem in a slightly different postcode.
The UK vanlife community has grown rapidly over the past few years, and we wanted to give you some realistic context behind the stats you see here.
This figure comes from industry research, van sales data, and camper conversion enquiries across the UK.
We looked at new campervan registrations, online vanlife forums, and social media growth — cross-checking the trends to make sure we weren’t just capturing one platform’s popularity spike.
While it’s not an exact census, 10K per year is a conservative, realistic estimate of people starting out living on the road in the UK.
This comes from surveys, forums, and community-based research across UK vanlife groups.
For example, surveys of vanlife groups on Instagram, Facebook, and Reddit consistently show women forming a strong majority of new participants.
We also cross-referenced with off-grid lifestyle blogs and YouTube content creators — the trend is clear: female vanlifers are leading the charge in 2025.
Why we share this
We wanted to give a real, evidence-backed look at who’s embracing vanlife in the UK today.
These numbers aren’t fluff — they’re based on actual patterns, registrations, and community insights.
Of course, these are estimates — vanlife is flexible, mobile, and some newcomers go under the radar — but they give a solid sense of scale and demographics.

What the Hell Is Going On With Vanlife Solar Systems? I don’t even know where to start. But in my humble opinion I’ve been watching the vanlife scene for years, and now it’s officially gone off the rails. Massive battery banks, solar panels big enough to land a helicopter on, inverters that could power a […]
Should You Register Your Van as a Campervan? The DVLA Truth Most Vanlifers Learn the Hard Way If you spend any time in vanlife Facebook groups you’ll see the same advice repeated over and over: “You need to register your van as a campervan with the DVLA.” The reality is very different. Thousands of UK […]
I’d had enough. Flat was bleeding me dry: a grand a month in bills, the electric meter ticking away like a dripping tap you can’t turn off., and a landlord sniffing around like a badger at a rubbish heap every time a nail came out of the wall. I worked, sure, but I was working […]
