If you’re travelling through the North East and looking for a simple, no-drama pub stop, The Dun Cow is a solid option.

We stayed one night in the large open car park at the rear of the pub. Plenty of space, easy access, and no awkward squeezing between cars or reversing into tight corners. It’s flat enough to get settled without much fuss.

We headed inside for food and drinks and were glad we did. Proper pub atmosphere – warm, relaxed, locals mixed in with visitors, and none of that sterile “chain pub” feel. It’s the kind of place where you can sit comfortably for a few hours without feeling rushed.

Very dog friendly too, which makes a difference when you’re travelling with four-legged crew. No funny looks, no issues – just welcomed in.

It’s always best to pre-book if you’re planning to stay overnight, especially at busier times. A quick call ahead keeps everything straightforward.

All in, a decent North East pub stop: space to park, good atmosphere, dog friendly, and a proper meal after a day on the road. Exactly what a pub stop should be.
